North Kingstown Pride 2026: A Beautiful Day Celebrating Love, Community, and Pride in Rhode Island
North Kingstown Pride at Wickford Middle School on June 7, 2026, was everything you could hope for from a Rhode Island summer celebration! Bright sunshine, incredible performances, welcoming faces, and an overwhelming sense of community. It was one of those days where you could feel the joy the moment you arrived.
This year was especially meaningful for me because I joined the RI Pride photo team, giving me the opportunity to document Pride celebrations across Rhode Island. North Kingstown Pride was one of my first events with the team, and it couldn't have been a better way to kick things off.
As a photographer, I'm always looking for genuine moments. The laughter between friends, proud families celebrating together, quiet moments of connection, and the energy that makes each event unique. North Kingstown Pride was filled with all of those moments and more.
A Community Celebration That Truly Felt Welcoming
One of my favorite things about North Kingstown Pride was how welcoming it felt from start to finish. There were longtime LGBTQ+ advocates standing alongside families attending their very first Pride event, neighbors reconnecting, and children running through the grass waving rainbow flags.
It never felt like there was just one way to experience Pride. Some people danced near the stage, others explored local vendors, and many simply enjoyed spending time together in the sunshine. That relaxed, community-centered atmosphere is something that really stood out throughout the day.
Music, Performances, and So Much Heart
The entertainment was one of the highlights of the day. Local musicians, drag performer and MC Sauvignon Blanc, and community groups kept the celebration moving from one unforgettable performance to the next.
Some performances had the audience dancing, while others created those rare moments where an entire crowd grows quiet to listen before erupting into applause. Those emotional shifts make events like this so memorable, and they're some of my favorite moments to photograph.
Photographing the Moments That Matter
My photography style has always been rooted in documentary and archival. Rather than staging images, I prefer documenting authentic moments as they naturally unfold.
At North Kingstown Pride, that meant following genuine interactions throughout the day. Parents held hands with their children while exploring the festival. Grandparents smiled proudly as families gathered for photos. Friends laughed between performances, volunteers greeted attendees with kindness, and colorful details, from handmade signs to face paint and vibrant outfits, helped tell the story of the event.
The beautiful June weather certainly helped. The bright summer light brought out every color of the rainbow while adding warmth and life to candid portraits and wide scenes alike. It was one of those perfect photography days where everything seemed to glow.
Pride Is About More Than a Celebration
While Pride is full of music, color, and joy, it's also about visibility, belonging, and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.
North Kingstown Pride reflected that beautifully. Organizers clearly put thought into making the event accessible, with water stations, shaded areas, and clear signage. Those details may seem small, but they make a tremendous difference in helping everyone enjoy the day!
Pride is also a protest. A time to not only reflect and remember those who have fought for equality, but the work that still needs to be done.
Why I Love Photographing Pride Events
Photographing Pride isn't simply about documenting an event, it's about preserving history and celebrating the people who make these communities so vibrant.
Every smile, every embrace, every performance, and every rainbow flag becomes part of a larger story about love, resilience, acceptance, and connection. I'm honored to help tell that story as I photograph Pride celebrations across Rhode Island this year.
